Aperture

A utilitarian moderation bot, complete with user infraction management, automated raid prevention and filtering, a web-based management panel, and statistical analytics of key guild data. With a constant development cycle beginning in late-2017, Aperture got its start as an early drop in-place replacement for Discord Staffer b1nzy's Rowboat. While Aperture offers the same feature-set as rowboat once did, Aperture is not rowboat and no longer shares source code with the archived project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Rowboat shut down?

According to b1nzy, the developer of Rowboat, directly from the now closed official support Discord server:
"Rowboat will be shutting down, effective August 1st (2018). Unfortunately my grander plans of passing a rebuilt, better Rowboat on to folks who could monetize and support it did not pan out. Additionally my attempts at finding a good home for the current Rowboat have fallen short. It's always possible I'll find the time, motiviation, and monetary support to materialize my grander rebuild plans in the future, but for now Rowboat will be laid to rest. The bot and website will be fully shutdown and unavailable on August 1st.
I will not be providing any access to the data Rowboat stores (messages, starboard, etc), however if you'd like you can use the infraction archive command to download all of your servers infractions. All data Rowboat stores for its operation will be deleted on August 1st.
Rowboat was first launched on October 7th, 2016 as a small modbot for Discord's public servers. Since then it's grown to something much larger, supporting over 100 servers and 1.5 million users. In total you've warned, kicked, banned and muted over 115,000 users. You've starred over 70,000 posts, and sent over 206,000,000 messages. I hope Rowboat will always be remembered as the bot which helped you grow and support your amazing communities, and I hope its legacy lives on through the many other moderation bots out there."

Can I host my own version of Rowboat?

In short, yes. Our opinion after setting one up based on the original code, would not advise it. Rowboat's original code is still available on the Github, but is 9 years old, and has several known security vulnerabilities.
If you do happen to take on the challenge to set up your own, or already have your own iteration of Rowboat running, let us know if you would like your bot listed! We would love to list all known descendants of Rowboat, active or retired, listed as a show of the legacy that Rowboat has left with us.
